Flooding can be devastating. Call SERVPRO to remediate!

Secondary Damage Types in Freeport

Floods can cause immense damage in their own right, creating stains, destroying fabrics, inundating fragile materials, and physically destroying many objects in their path. However, many floods also cause secondary problems for a home as well, creating a dynamic damage situation requiring multiple approaches and areas of expertise to handle. This is where SERVPRO shines, as our technicians are able to scan for, respond to, and treat additional problems as they arise. These are some of the most common types of secondary damage we face in a flood.

Mold

Flood damage in Freeport will inevitably lead to massive mold growth if action is not taken quickly. Floods dampen an entire structure, creating ideal conditions for mold to grow uninhibited. Furthermore, floodwaters are often highly contaminated, containing high and concentrated amounts of mold spores everywhere they go. Mold is tough to treat and remove, but if action is taken early enough, most or all of its damages can be averted.

Fire

Even gentle floods can cause fires, by disrupting and destroying electronics, knocking over lights, causing chemical reactions, or a myriad of other potentialities. It is far from uncommon when a case of flood damage also comes with burns and fire damage to restore, as well. Typically, we deal with the water and drying first and foremost, and work on fire restorations later.

Odor

Many inexperienced and uncertified restoration companies inadequately deodorize a home following a flood or even forget it entirely. Floods contain contaminants that can leave behind long-lasting foul odors which can only be removed through the use of specialty deodorizing fogging machines. Our teams use multiple types of these depending on the scenario and gravity of the situation, removing all odors from your home rather than simply masking them.
